Blown Engine? How To Avoid It & Where To Get Your Engine Overhauled
I always wanted a luxury car, so once I turned 16, I started saving for one. Some 12 years later, I was tired of driving around used beater cars, and it was time to buy my first luxury car. I was thinking about getting an Infiniti G37, or a Lexus ES350, but I decided on the 2007 Acura TL. I’ve been in love with this car the instant I first saw the new model come out in 2005. I won’t tell you how much I paid for the car, but it was over $50,000. I’ve LOVED this car ever since I bought it…it’s been great to me…that is until a year ago. I’m the type that usually follows directions, so I followed the factory maintenance schedule to the T; except for one item – the timing belt. Acura recommended changing the timing belt at 90,000 miles. They wanted something like $1,250 to change it. I couldn’t fathom paying that much for regular maintenance, so I decided to skip the repair….boy, was that a mistake. At 105,000 miles, I was entering onto the expressway, and I heard a horrible bang that came from under the hood, and the car started slowing down….the engine was toast…the timing belt had broken. I didn’t realize a broken belt could cause so much damage, but apparently that typically happens when the timing belt breaks on modern engines. Apparently, when the belt breaks, the crankshaft along with the piston and rod assembly will still move but the valves will be still. This typically causes the piston to collide with the valves, which can cause damage to the pistons, valves, and the entire head in some cases. It was time for a new engine, or rebuilt car engines. Acura wanted upwards of $8,000 to install a refurbished engine; I couldn’t believe how much they wanted. I called around the area and got some estimates and I looked at customer reviews. The one shop which clearly had the best combination of great reviews and an exceptionally low price was http://reo-insider.com. They were able to rebuild my car’s engine for about a QUARTER of the cost Acura wanted. They also gave me an outstanding warranty.
